Energy End Use
Diesel
Diesel represents over 50 per cent of the total energy use on Alberta farms. About 46 per cent of this total energy is used for diesel fuel in farm machinery with about four per cent used in vehicles
Gasoline
Gasoline represents about 23 per cent of the total farm energy use in Alberta. About 14 per cent is used for vehicles and five per cent for machinery.< p>
Natural Gas
Natural gas consumes about 13 per cent to the total Alberta farm energy. Most of this is used for space and hot water heating in the farm house and other farm buildings.
Electricity
Electricity accounts for about 12 per cent of total farm energy use through lighting, heating, motors and various uses in the farmhouse and other farm buildings, depending on the type of farming operation.
