Geothermal
Geothermal is a technology that utilizes the earth’s heating properties to heat and cool entire buildings using heat pump systems. GeoExchange is an industry term used to describe this alternative to traditional non-renewable sourced heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. GeoExchange systems have also been referred to as earth energy systems, or geothermal heat pump systems. The American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stated, "geoexchange" is the most energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective space conditioning system available.Economics of Geothermal
Any alternative to conventional natural gas space heating in Alberta needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Suppliers of geothermal systems in Alberta will do an economic assessment for your particular site. The economics would be best when considering a new installation or when an existing system needs replacing. Below are links to Alberta suppliers for geothermal technology:
- Natural Energy Resources, St. Albert, AB
- One Source Energy Inc., Calgary, AB
- PCI, Distributor of Geothermal Equipment, Wetaskiwin, AB
- RBA Mechanical, 780-474-7481, Edmonton, AB
- React Energy, Calgary, AB
- SunForce Energy Systems, Calgary, AB
- The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC)
- Thermal Creek , Calgary, AB
A national organization dedicated to the creation of a competitive, self-sustaining market for geothermal heating and cooling systems in the residential and commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) markets in Canada. - GeoExchange BC
A British Columbia organization dedicated to the education, promotion and responsible design and installation of geothermal systems.
