What We Do

The UCA solicits, listens to and analyzes consumer concerns, and provides advice and guidance to stakeholders including government, regulators and utilities.  We are committed to:

Advocating for Reasonable Costs 
The UCA will act as the voice of consumers during regulatory proceedings to ensure the lowest regulated rates, consistent with reasonable service.

Empowering Albertans
The UCA will provide consumers with the information and advice they need to make informed choices about how to purchase electricity and natural gas, based on their individual circumstances.

Safeguarding Consumer Interests
The UCA works closely with other government agencies and utility service providers to ensure that consumer interests are addressed in policies, regulations and industry practices.

Providing Balanced Representation
The UCA will advocate for an equitable distribution of rates among all rate classes, a balance between individuals and classes of consumers, and fair consideration of consumers’ current and long-term interests.

Resolving Concerns Respectfully
When consumers have exhausted known avenues of issue resolution, the UCA will investigate and resolve their concerns through mediation with utility companies.
